Rebuilding through commitment

The project “Phoenix - Rebuilding Youth Centre Wiebelskirchen” intends to rebuild the “House at the Lake” youth centre, located in Wiebelskirchen, Germany, thanks to the help of young people who have been regular visitors to the facility. This serves the purpose of providing the young people aged 14 to 17 years with valuable community volunteering opportunities, with the ultimate aim of rebuilding the place where they may socialise, receive professional consultation, and bring their creative ideas to life. By participating in rebuilding the facility, the young people are given the opportunity to experience self-efficacy and simultaneously advocate for their personal and societal interests.

In May 2024, the youth centre was hit by severe flooding causing the main facility containing seating spaces, workers’ offices, and a kitchen to be seriously damaged. In addition to this, the facility’s 800m2 large skating hall, a space for young people to meet and interact despite their differing socioeconomic backgrounds, has suffered from the water damage. The youth centre’s main facility is mostly visited by young people from disadvantaged economic backgrounds, often also with a history of immigration.
